Jazz Band

In addition to the marching band and concert band, instrumental band students have the opportunity to participate in the jazz band. The purpose of this ensemble is to give band students an opportunity to play various types of jazz music in a traditional big band jazz ensemble.

The instrumentation is limited to saxophones, trombones, trumpets and a rhythm section which includes percussionist(s) (set players), piano player(s), bassist(s) and possibly guitarist(s).

This group is a strictly voluntary organization that usually meets every Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Sign-ups are usually in Sept. and rehearsals begin in Oct. and continue until the spring concert. The band will usually perform at the spring concerts and occasionally at other events.

Although this is a voluntary organization it is required that once a student makes the commitment to join, he/she honor that commitment throughout the season. Because this group is voluntary and meets solely after school as an extra curricular activity, students do not receive any form of grade or credit for participating.

It is solely at the discretion of the band director and the willingness of the students as to which years the jazz band will meet and perform.

Pep Band

In addition to the marching band and concert band, instrumental band students have the opportunity to participate in the pep band. The purpose of this ensemble is to give band students an opportunity to play various types of music for the purpose of entertaining and hopefully inspiring the crowds at the home basketball games.

The instrumentation of this 20 to 30 member group is limited to the typical band, winds and percussion instruments.

This group is a strictly voluntary organization that requires attendance at various rehearsals and performances. Sign-ups are usually at the beginning of Nov. and rehearsals begin the same month and continue until the end of the basketball season. Typically there are five or six after school rehearsals and 8 to 10 home game performances.

Although this is a voluntary organization it is required that once a student makes the commitment to join, he/she honor that commitment throughout the season. Because this group is voluntary and meets solely after school as an extra curricular activity, students do not receive any form of grade or credit for participating.

This ensemble does not necessarily convene each and every year. It is solely at the discretion of the band director as to which years the pep band will meet and perform.
