The Band Bulletin board is one of the most important ways we have to inform the students and their families of relevant band information. Students should check the board daily for new information and updates.
Parents are encouraged to remind their band student to update their families about all current and updated band information.
The Bulletin Board is divided in 2 parts: one part for band announcements, and the second part that is dedicated to fundraising activities.
The Fundraising Board posts the schedule for the years fundraisers. This includes the month and the specific fundraiser/company. This gives the parents and students the opportunity to plan in advance the fundraisers, if any, in which they choose to participate. It also posts all information about the student's individual fundraising efforts. Each fundraiser has a posted summary of students name, total items sold and the profit for those items. At the far right side of the board is a summary of all fundraisers with the total sum of all individual fundraising profits. There is also a summary of the escrow account deposits, which is used for the Florida Trip. I try to keep these lists updated and as a rule they are updated for each monthly Band Parent meeting. In addition there is a composite list, which shows how each fundraiser compares with the other fundraiser. This is useful in showing the success of each individual fundraiser and guides in choosing fundraisers for the following year.
The Announcement Board posts all of the information that is important to the band student and their families. This includes seasonal information, yearly and multi-year planning information. Information includes: band concerts, parades, band festivals, rehearsals, news items, special events, congratulatory signs, seating and squad assignments, band banquet, band camp information, band trips, music listings, current ongoing fundraisers with due dates and profit structures, special auditions, etc. There is monthly band calendar posted with copies available on the counter to take for home posting. During the marching season, every Monday morning I post the specific report times for that weekend's performances. I also place copies on the counter of directions and maps to all of the away games and band festivals.
The monthly Band Parent meeting is an excellent time for parents to personally update themselves on current band information.
